Stayed here for one night, we were taking the train from Palermo to Naples, and not wanting to arrive in Naples after dark, we decided to stay here. And we are glad we did. Our room was on the fifth floor, and we had a view of the straits, the supermarket below and, to our left and straight ahead, were the homes of many of the Villa San Giovanni’s citizens. A high density neighborhood, it is. Our room was large, the bed comfortable, the room clean, the amenities were there, and the room’s furniture was replicated from an earlier age. The room was also quiet, we had a peaceful sleep. The staff are friendly: taking their responsibilities seriously but not themselves. The hotel’s hallways are quite wide, reminds me of my high school hallways, and adds to the hotel charm. The neighborhood is worth exploring, mainly family owned shops, with interesting stuff to sell. We pasted a wine shop that that sold mainly locally produced wine; it was closed, so could not buy a bottle to drink in our room. Or drink your wine in the hotel’s lobby, which would be the ideal place to have a bottle of wine to drink. If you saw the lobby, you would know why! We had our dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, the dinner was a bit overpriced, but we are glad we ate what our waiter recommended. The hotel had two groups of people sharing the dining room with us: a tour group from northern Italy, and a football team. Both of these groups had a buffet dinner, so you might want to ask about their buffet dinner, instead of selecting items from a menu. The morning breakfast was quite good, mainly sweet stuff, along with cereals and milk; my wife said their canole was the best she ever had. And she has eaten many a canola. We are glad we decided to stop over in Villa San Giovanni, Italy; our stay at the Grand Hotel De La Ville, was uneventful but enjoyable.

“Hotel from late 90-s”

It is good hotel from late 90-s. Great bed, but everything else is too old and should be update. Some lamps were missing, the air conditioner did not work, the refrigerator is empty, there is smell of the old furniture, wi-fi is not stable.

We'd booked a nearby hotel but were redirected here on our arrival with the referring hotel emphasising that the Grand Hotel De La Ville was " four star, four star!" We'd booked a nearby hotel but were redirected here on our arrival with the referring hotel emphasising that the Grand Hotel De La Ville was " four star, four star!" Well parts of it might be, but other parts aren't. Friendly staff, good dining room - we had dinner and breakfast - with staff making effort to provide gluten free options for my wife. But the wifi was dreadful, dreadful, dreadful - it did not function at all in our bedroom, and when we were downstairs it sometimes dropped out. Very frustrating. Also in our room (spacious, clean, and with a view) there were no lights suitable for reading. So if you need good wifi and like to read in yr room at night, there might be better options for you.
