After spending a week at the Mandarin Oriental Muscat, I can say without hesitation that this is not just the best hotel in Muscat — it is one of the finest examples of hospitality I have experienced anywhere in the world. Luxury hotels can provide beautiful rooms, stunning pools and excellent food. What separates the truly exceptional properties is how they make their guests feel. The Mandarin Oriental Muscat is operating on an entirely different level. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble. Every member of the team seemed genuinely invested in making our stay memorable, personal and special. A few examples: I casually mentioned that my wife Karen and I enjoy Asahi Japanese lager. A few hours later, four complimentary bottles appeared in our suite. Speaking of the suite, I asked whether an upgrade might be possible. Not only did they upgrade us, but they moved us into a magnificent top-floor sea-view suite with breathtaking views across the Gulf of Oman. Then the magic really began. At breakfast I mentioned to Executive Chef Alessandro that I liked sultanas in my baked beans (a top tip, by the way). I also joked that my ideal breakfast would be rib-eye steak, fried eggs, truffled mushrooms and foie gras. The following morning it appeared exactly as requested. Not only that, I had mentioned I preferred Heinz baked beans and the team had actually gone out and sourced Heinz especially for me. That level of attention to detail is extraordinary. But the best was yet to come. During a conversation I mentioned that I grew up in Jersey in the British Channel Islands and that I missed the wonderful crab omelettes my mother used to make. The next morning I came down to breakfast and was presented with nearly a kilogram of freshly picked King Crab meat. Chef Alessandro created a spectacular King Crab Omelette for both Karen and me, served alongside line-caught local hammour, succulent tiger prawns, truffled mushrooms, roasted tomato and crispy hand-cut hash browns. After one mouthful my verdict was immediate: The greatest omelette I have ever eaten. Not one of the best. The best. The GOAT of omelettes. It was so exceptional that I ordered it again the following morning before our departure back to Dubai. Even now, writing this review, my mouth is watering at the memory of Chef Alessandro's King Crab Omelette. Quite honestly, it is worth staying at the Mandarin Oriental Muscat for the omelette alone. The food, however, is only part of the story. What truly makes this hotel special is its people. General Manager Sandro Mazza personally stopped by our breakfast table to check on our stay. What impressed me most was how thoroughly informed he was about every detail of our visit. It was obvious that he genuinely cares about every guest staying under his roof and has built a culture where excellence is expected and delivered consistently. The valet team and porters were exceptional — always smiling, always enthusiastic and genuinely pleased to see us returning each day. Sarah, our breakfast waitress, was wonderful throughout our stay. Warm, friendly, efficient and attentive without ever being intrusive. She clearly takes pride in delivering excellent service and is a credit to the hotel. The star of the show for me, however, was Zain. Zain is the Breakfast Outlet Manager and quite honestly appears to possess magical powers. It often felt as though I merely had to think about something and somehow it would appear moments later. I'm still trying to work out how he does it. If you could distil seven-star hospitality into a bottle, the label would read: "Zain." He is everything hospitality should be. Professional, warm, proactive, knowledgeable and utterly dedicated to creating memorable experiences for guests. He is a tremendous ambassador for the Mandarin Oriental brand and, in my opinion, a future General Manager in the making. Under the guidance of Sandro Mazza, I suspect that promotion will come sooner rather than later. My daughter has special needs and travelling can sometimes be challenging. Every member of the team treated us with kindness, patience and genuine warmth. Those things matter more than people realise. By the end of our stay, the Mandarin Oriental Muscat no longer felt like a hotel. It felt like a home. We are already planning our return, possibly for my birthday on 11 August. If you are wondering where to stay in Muscat—or indeed anywhere in Oman—stop looking. You have found it. The answer is the Mandarin Oriental Muscat. There are luxury hotels. There are world-class hotels. And then there are those very rare places that create memories you will still be talking about years later. The Mandarin Oriental Muscat belongs firmly in that final category. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 – Simply Outstanding.
