Families travelling to Santander would not be disappointed by a stay in this property. Cabárceno has a huge animal park complete with cable cars so the self catering houses here are all animal themed. Built (it seems) in the last couple of years, they hage been really well designed. Each property is fully enclosed in its own gated garden, they felt very private and had outdoor tables, loungers and bbq. It exudes good style. Each themed house has a mural outside and themed art inside to tie the animal throughout. We had a Bison upstairs and in the lounge too. Inside we had two bedrooms - upstairs had twins and a pull out bed tucked around the end in the L shaped room. Our three kids shared this without squabbles and the 7 year old felt she had some space to call her own. Down some (slightly scary, slippy stairs - older kids managed them, 3 year old fell a few times whilst sleepy,) the main lounge/diner/kitchen has double height ceiling and windows to maximise the wonderful views. Of note was an extraordinary cloud shaped light that made the room feel just that little bit more refined/arty. The kitchen was modern, huge fridge freezer, good washing machine, two ring electric hob (that took a little fathoming,) multifunction microwave/oven thing, no kettle (seems pretty common in Spain but fiddly boiling water on the hob for a brew!) plenty of cupboard space, crockery (but bring your own food/drink as the town itself doesn’t have a supermarket - a huge Carrefour is about 20mins drive, local towns have smaller shops for basics.) Bathroom had a shower, sink, hairdryer, toilet etc, again all very modern. Plenty of hot water at all times. Enough towels provided. Master bedroom was really comfortable, loads of cupboard space. We arrived after the front desk closed for the day (so do send an estimated check in, they open roughly 10am-5:30). Our ferry was delayed so an 8:30pm arrival. They had put our keys in a security box, emailed me the code (albeit in Spanish so you may need to cut and paste into Google Translate) and we were in within moments of arrival. Shared areas - picnic spot and swimming pool were again rather lovely. A children’s playground (not part of the complex) is opposite and if you are arriving in a large car with a roof box, happily parking is spacious and not height restricted. Up the eps is a restaurant (untested) but read some good reviews. Why did I not give it five stars? I would have given 4 1/2 if possible. The slightly slippy stairs, lack of any basics in the kitchen (eg tea bags) and poor drainage in the shower - but that's just being nit picky about what was a great family place to stay.
