This delightful, family run hotel in a quiet corner of the Ardennes and near the Luxembourg border, is one of Belgium's best kept secrets. On the edge of the village of Burg Reuland - which has a castle complete with tower to climb and tunnel to explore - amid forests and fields this hotel has an excellent restaurant and comfortable beds in good sized rooms. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Used by cyclists, walkers and motoring tourists, mostly Dutch, German and Belgian this hotel is a little gem. Our visit was in part to go to the Grand Pris at Spa and we found approaching and leaving the circuit from the south easy. Far more traffic congestion coming to Spa from the north. Being close to the Luxembourg border this hotel is perfectly placed to explore that lovely country as well as the Ardennes.

After a cycling day on the Vennbahn we found ourselves in Burg Reuland, on Easter Sunday - completely desolate except for the Burg Hof. Having dragged our bikes up to it we were pleasantly surprised. Apart from the fact that the main language was German and we don't speak any, we we're made very welcome, and managed to get along ordering in a bit of French / pigeon English and sign language!! We are a family of 5 with 3 children aged 6,8 & 10 who, despite being muddy from cycling, were shown through to the restaurant, which is very bizarre - dark wood like a German castle! Kids loved it. Was clean and authentic, not a tourist in sight! We ordered 3 kids meals, 2 'fish sticks' and a small schnitzel. Perfect, and came with large lots of apple sauce & ketchup. I had schnitzel, my husband had the trout. All food was lovely, and well presented. The waiter brought us a huge bowl of chips and a salad to share, it was perfect! All we had to say was "sehr gut" The kids "kindereis" for pudding and got 2 large boules of ice cream with cream and sweets in a bowl with a cornet on top. Some of the best strawberry ice cream we've tasted outside of Italy! The chocolate was very sickly and like dark chocolate mousse, I loved it but it defeated my 6 year old. We finished with mint tea & tea with milk. Restaurant was smoke free, toilets free and clean, and staff friendly in German... no internet up there so google translate not helpful! The other kids menu option was "pestetchen" which is some kind of puff pastry vol-au-vent or currywurst... All in all good value. Kids meals 8E, my schnitzel 13,5E, husbands trout 15E, kids ice creams 3,5E, hot drinks 2E & fizzy drinks 1,6E. 0.5l of water 3,5E At the end the owner refused to take our Visa, said only MasterCard or cash, since both our debits & credits are both Visa we panicked. Luckily I noticed the bank machine he has is the same one we've seen at the Sunparks, where we are staying & persuaded him to try - he does take Visa, he just didn't know it! Phew! So it you're out on the Vennbahn and fancy some food do follow the signs up through the village! In summer you could sit out in the conservatory, & there's some kids play equipment in the garden.

“Nice, quet hotel”

We have recently sent a few days in this hotel. We had a room in the new part of the hotel, which was very spacious and clean, with a good bathroom with shower. Breakfast OK, dinner (we had booked half board) was also good but simple. The a la carte dishes looked very good.

Rooms were large and well designed for disabled families - however not being disabled or requiring such a large easy to clean room it echoed. Beds were comfortable and food plain but good. Breakfast very basic. Only takes Mastercard or cash!
