What does one hope for in a hotel? A warm, friendly welcome, helpful staff, pleasant & stylish interiors, good food and drink, relaxing atmosphere, comfortable bed and bedroom, stylish bathroom etc etc… Luckily The Cookie Jar excels in all these. The first thing to note is the genuinely warm welcome and engagement with all the staff in the hotel. The hotel is very stylish with a lovely coherent design theme and good quality fittings. The bedroom is a joy, large and comfortable with all you need, along with a superb bathroom, with big drench-style shower – very satisfying. For dinner, the setting is very pleasant, looking out over the delightful garden, and food is delicious. Again the waiting staff are superb. Breakfast is excellent and enough to see you through the day, unless you are planning some marathon exercise routine that day. My wife & I stayed for three nights and we agreed that this place is an absolute winner. Overall, I can’t fault The Cookie Jar & would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a good hotel in this beautiful part of the country.

What an amazing find. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cookie Jar and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. Where to start? From the wonderful, warm welcome to the beautifully appointed rooms, warm and friendly staff or stunning dining room and food, thoughtful touches delight guests. We stayed in the Chapel room, which was breathtakingly decorated and appointed and a joy to be in and wake in. Even down to the room not only having a hairdryer but also hair straighteners and a curling iron as well as a delicious jar of cookies, every thought has been given to guest experience and no detail over looked. Universally, the team could not do more for guests, responding with lighthearted warmth and a genuine desire to help to any and all enquiries. The owner's check-ins on guest experience mornings and evenings seem to keep detail on point. Staff provided helpful recommendations about what to do, where to eat, where to avoid and where to park that meant not only was time at the Cookie Jar enjoyable but the whole stay at Alnwick was an absolutely memorable stay. To everyone on the team, thank you. We won't forget our stay.

This inconspicuous hotel conveniently situated opposite the entrance gate to Alnwick Castle on Bailiffgate in the old town is a rare find. The air of tranquility as you step into the reception hall is underlined by the welcome and professionalism of the dedicated staff who immediately put you at ease. The history of the hotel as a convent is evidenced throughout with stained glass windows, pictures, etc. The beautifully appointed rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, quirky antiques and wonderful bathrooms with Penhaligon amenities. An inviting lounge is a great place to mingle with other guests for a preprandial drink while lingering over the exciting menu. The dining room walls are decorated with framed cutlery creations and the light and airy room, which overlooks the lovely terrace and garden, allows for well-spaced tables. The food offer is top notch, sensibly priced and accomplished. The establishment is made by the friendly and efficient staff who go the extra mile to ensure your stay is memorable.

“The Cookie Jar - Weekend overnight stay”

Louise on reception was the perfect host. Parking not the best unfortunately as the parking outside and around the hotel is limited to two hours only. We parked a short distance away, slightly out of sight from the hotel. Room was pleasant, however a little too warm for sleeping and the small tower fan supplied had a timer.. which resulted in waking up several times during the night to re-set. Room needs more ventilation. Good quality bed linen and comfy bed. For reference our room was Sweethope Lough Tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch, however when going downstairs in the morning to collect milk from the fridge, there was no milk! Would be a good idea to supply a couple of small UHT milks to enable a morning brew. Cookies were delicious. The Bistro/Dining Room was a lovely place to dine, however evening meal prices are way too high compared to local fayre and set meal prices need to be individualised. This was apparent as we dined alone. Breakfast selection was very good. Fruit, Yoghurts, Cereal, Juices & Tea/Coffee all amazing. Cooked breakfast was average in our opinion. Presented well but lacked a little flavour. Some lovely seating areas in and outside the Hotel for relaxing. The honestly bar on an evening was a nice touch. Overall a pleasant stay, however the few issues mentioned need consideration.
