Tivemos pesquisado hotéis em Gujo Hachiman mas não encontrar uma ampla escolha. Como estávamos ficar 3 noites em ryokans esta viagem (são mais caro que incluem refeições) decidimos para procurar um hotel com preços razoáveis nesta cidade desde que estávamos chegando tarde & sair mais cedo. O hotel parecia um pouco fora da cidade que estava bem para nós, que tinha um carro. O recepcionista que acolheu-nos falou bom inglês e nos perguntou se queríamos ter o jantar no hotel, que recusamos. Ela então mostrou-nos um pouco "cafe" no hotel, onde poderíamos ter noodles ou arroz. Como tínhamos acabado de chegar no voo olhos vermelhos a noite antes e não tinha sono adequado, decidimos para um jantar precoce de & curry de macarrão arroz que acabou por ser surpreendentemente bom e com preços razoáveis. O quarto de dormir (como o hotel) era simples e limpo, embora ambos parecia Room was clean and new O mesmo recepcionista que assistiram aos nossos check-in cuidadosamente à esquerda nos notas (ela estava fora de direito no dia seguinte) sobre onde ir para café da manhã seguinte como pedimos-lhe uma sugestão, bem como mapas sobre a forma de carro para as oficinas de réplica de alimentos que são famosas em Gujo.

The Yoshidaya, which is the main hotel cum ryokan in Gujo town was full, so we settled for the next best hotel, the Gujo Hachiman, which is 4km from town (about a 7-8 min drive). The fairly large hotel is dated and rather ordinary, however is acceptable if you just need a stopover in the small town of Gujo. On the night we were there a large tour group had checked in as well. The hotel boasts a number of onsens, however the truth is that there is a large public onsen facility annexed to the hotel which hotel guests can use. We did not feel compelled to try the onsen, which was well patronised. A quaint feature of the hotel is a theatre of sorts also annexed to the hotel, which hotel guests are entitled to for free as well. There was a show starting at 7pm featuring a male/female character in full costume the night we were there. At 9pm there was a dance session where guests could have a go at the famed Gujo Odori dance. We opted not to have dinner provided ryokan-style in our room and instead drove into town for a splendid Hitsumaboshi dinner. Breakfast was in a large dining hall, and though simple and no frills it was a good Japanese breakfast.

We stayed two nights at this hotel in December 2014. The hotel is quite a distance away from Gujo Hachiman town centre. If you are taking the Meitetsu bus from Takayama, you would need to get off at the Gujo Hachiman IC (interchange) along the highway, and will need to lug your heavy luggage down a long flight of stairs in order to get to any transportation. Staff from the hotel are friendly and warm, but speaks very little English. Dinner was served in room and the food is very very good. The service staff comprised mainly of elderly Japanese - it felt awkward to have them serve us. If you are planning to book a room with in-room hot spring, note that the bathroom is situated outdoor, which may be all good and well in summer, but is almost impossible to take a shower in almost sub-zero temperature in winter. We went to the public bath and take our shower there after soaking in the hotspring. The hotel's onsen is also opened to the public and hordes of locals visit the early morning or evening. The hotel also provides a shuttle service to Gujo Hachiman town centre but you would need to find your way back.
