I just spent a week at the Braunsbergerhof Hotel. The hotel grounds and the location of the property up on the hill with views from above Lana are very nice, although the hotel suffers from noise from cars, motorcycles, and trucks driving by along the winding road that wraps around both the front and rear of the hotel property. The hotel's narrow parking lot is also a bit challenging to navigate your car in and out of with the steepness of the location and tight roadway access into the hotel's driveway and parking garage. Their "Superior" rooms on the mountain side are good sized, recently renovated with modern styling, and have nice beds and walk-in showers. The slightly higher priced rooms across the hall, with the more desirable views of the valley below, are smaller, have not been renovated, have less comfortable beds, small, cramped showers, and an outdated 90's decor. Strange that the significantly smaller and lower quality room, even though they have a better view, would cost more. Not very impressive. With regards to the food, they provide you with half-board included as part of the room cost. This means two meals a day are served; breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is average. Dinner, however, surpassed our expectations and was the highlight of this hotel. It's a multi-course gourmet meal very nicely prepared by a well-trained chef and with a different set menu every evening. Their self-serve salad bar (which is part of the dinner service) is limited to mainly basic raw vegetables and is uninspiring. BE AWARE though that NO DINNER IS SERVED at all ON SUNDAY night. This issue was not made clear to me upfront in the emails sent to me by the hotel when I booked my rooms online. I only learned about this information later after I already checked in, which left me feeling misled. As a result, we had to drive to a restaurant outside the hotel to have some dinner on the Sunday night. Also, dinner is served only at a set time each of the 6 other days of the week. I was told at check in that I must arrive at the hotel dining room between 7:00-7:15 PM. Rather uncommon for a hotel to only serve dinner at one specific time and an inconvenient restriction for a hotel guest. I wasn't pleased with this or informed about it in advance either. Like at all other regional hotels, you are charged additionally for any beverages that you might order with dinner, or from the bar throughout the day, however their actual drink prices aren't normally disclosed to guests upfront and are simply charged to your final bill at checkout, which seems evasive. And, if you order only tap water as your beverage with dinner, they charge you for tap water too - rather petty. The hotel's main host; Hannes is attentive, but I didn't find him personable, he didn't make us feel welcome, or feel that we were valued guests at his hotel. He could even be described as hostile when we asked him questions about any of the untypical house rules of the hotel as described above. Very unusual behavior for someone serving guests in the hospitality industry. In conclusion, based upon the various issues, and the overall inflexible treatment and lack of transparency we experienced at the Braunsbergerhof, we don't plan to stay at this hotel again when we return to Lana next year.
