One hears stories about the decline of hotel chains, but if so, that decline has not touched this very nice hotel. Located conveniently right off I-10 with reasonably quick access to downtown Beaumont, it is a perfect hotel for a business stay in the area. My reservation had been made for me by my client, but it was in order and easily found. This is a six-story hotel with a large lobby that includes a sitting area, an office area, and an attached restaurant that serves breakfast (530a-930a) and supper (no lunch). Though the hotel is not in the best area, I felt safe as to my person and vehicle during the stay. I am not sure what security is provided but access is well-controlled and no problems or issues were apparent during my stay. My keycard worked without difficulty on all applicable doors throughout my several-day stay. Upon arrival in the room, it was warm, since the air conditioning was turned off and it was a warm Southern Texas summer. But the room cooled down rather quickly and the air conditioning, controlled from a wall thermostat, was easily operated, and not rationed – it remained on when I was absent from the room. I was able to keep the room quite cool during my stay. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable. The water pressure was outstanding, the best I’ve had in years in any hotel, and there was plenty of hot water. There was no tub, just a shower with a sliding glass door but the water stayed where it was supposed to and didn’t leak out as often happens with these systems. Soap and shampoo are in wall dispensers but I use my own. There were plenty of towels and washcloths. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of outlets. The room was quiet but I also use a white noise fan. The only problem I had was with neighbors bumping into the walls at times – sounded like children, and the cleaning people did so also in the mornings. The door closed but did not latch without being pushed or pulled forcefully. Normally I don’t watch TV while traveling but I was watching the World Cup. The TV remote was easy to operate and the channels easy to locate and access. The hotel restaurant breakfast was excellently prepared and the server was outstanding! It was no more expensive than a Waffle House and much better. Coffee is self-serve and is free whether or not you are using the restaurant. In the evening, the restaurant is at the bar, and is limited to “bar food.” The music is loud and intrusive. But the food is good and well-prepared. Checkout was quick and easy, with a printed receipt offered. I enjoyed my stay here and this is a place to which I would gladly return on future occasions.
