We stayed here for a long weekend while my husband attended the two day fly fishing course. We stayed in the Holly Cottage so we could bring our two dogs. We really appreciated the availability of pet friendly lodging and the one bedroom cottage was just right for us. I particularly liked the deck on the back of the cottage that was entirely enclosed with a railing so I could leave the back door open and let the dogs come in and out. The resort setting is beautiful with the old stone buildings and a creekside location. I was a little disappointed at the maintenance of the grounds as the common areas (patios and flower beds) were overrun with weeds and there was a lot of goose droppings near the creek bank. There were several fire pits and split logs were supplied. There were plenty of Adirondack chairs on the patio and near the creek in addition to several picnic tables near the creek. We ate at the restaurant twice and had outdoor seating each time. The food was slightly above average but also quite pricey. We also ate at a couple local establishments that were just as good and a lot less money. As mentioned, we stayed in the cottage so we could bring our dogs with us. There were other people who had their dogs there as well and all were quiet and well behaved. As other reviews had mentioned, the train, which runs just on the other side of the creek, is loud and noticeable. It comes through many times during the day and night. I travel with a small sound machine so I was able to drown it out a little bit so be aware that it is an issue which may interfere with your sleep. Regarding the Holly Cottage, it was comfortable but not plush by any means. In the living area there was a microwave, a coffee maker, a dusty toaster, and small dormitory style refrigerator. There were a couple of plates, a few utensils, and a couple of wine glasses. There was a couch, a coffee table, a small dining table with two chair chairs, and a television. There was a new sponge, a small travel size container of dish soap, and a roll a very thin paper towel towels. There was a small hallway between the living area and the sleeping quarters which housed a Jacuzzi tub as well as a tall gas fireplace. The bedroom area had a separate bathroom with a single vanity, a toilet, and a shower/tub combination. It was equipped with lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. They also had the thinnest one ply toilet paper I’ve ever used. I tried to use the toilet paper to wipe a little bit of lipstick off my face and the toilet paper disintegrated and stuck to my skin. Now, just imagine using it for its intended purpose. The king bed was comfortable, but quite tall and was a bit difficult to get into. There was a nightstand with a lamp on each side of the bed. There was a small chest at the foot of the bed as well as one luggage rack and a chair. There was a rather large wardrobe but there were no hangers at all. The mini split HVAC system in the bedroom worked just fine. All in all, we had a good stay at the Holly Cottage. You should consider bringing a sound machine as well as your own toilet paper and paper towels as those that are provided are cheap and thin.

As always we love coming to The Allenberry when we come north for a family visit. This year we were able to get to know a few of the new staff members and they were really great additions. Dominic in the Barn was the nicest kid, so easy to talk to and super personable. I can't say enough about how kind he was. Logan also was a good bartender with a fun personality. Janessa- the hostess (not sure if I am spelling correctly) also at The Barn went out of her way to help my husband find some postacards nearby. As far as our room - we were in the Pine Lodge downstairs and it had a definite musty smell from the AC. Luckily we were able to shut if off all week and enjoy the cool air. The electric also in the room seemed spotty. The bathroom outlets were not working consistently and I was blow drying my hair next to the bed beause the outlets by the desk weren't working properly either. I did bring it to the attention of the desk when we were leaving. The pool as always was great and always plenty of towels. We will be back next summer I am sure !!!!
