We woke to the rural sounds of cocks crowing, turkeys gobbling and wind in the trees! The villa was well equipped and serviced daily, our hosts friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

We have visited this villa in july 2017 and enjoyed it very much. The villas are situated on a mountain slope and very private due to smart gardening and lay out of the houses. The houses are made of local stone and due to the thick walls quite cool inside. But there is aircon in every bedroom so that you can sleep well. The kitchen is very good equipped so that you can cook yourself. Even a magnetron, oven and dishwasher is present. You can also travel light because there is a laundry washing machine in your villa. Every day we got fresh towels and the villa was cleaned. Perfect. The island itself is the best Greek Island. Very green and a lot of places to visit and explore. Use the small Zakynthos book in the villa to find these places. It will not be the last time that we visit the island and this villa for sure.

Should you consider the brash noisy neon bars and screaming hen parties of Laganos a modern representation of Hades, then this small, private group of five villas plus 'reception' (the summer home of the owners) in a peaceful oasis surrounded by pine plantation with just the sound of cicadas, may seem like a different country. The drive from the airport is straightforward albeit the streets of the two villages en-route were built for pack donkeys rather than cars. The roads on Zakynthos seem more switch-back than on most Greek islands so average speeds are around 25mph. The villas are constructed from the warm local stone, roofed with pan tiles over large timber trusses. The exterior may look small but interior space is perfectly adequate. Construction and décor is simple but there are nice window details and large internal arches which together with the stone paved exterior give them a charming relaxed feeling. They are generally well equipped (basic provisions were already in the large refrigerator and bread on the table). Pepos & Voula, the owners, are both helpful with advice and efficient in problem solving. Outside, the shaded dining area and large barbecue are perfect for al-fresco living. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrella shade for the heat of the day. The prevailing North-westerly summer breezes ensure that the hills are a little cooler than the southern bay resorts so the heat never seemed oppressive in August. (All the villa windows have retractable fly screens so if you are happy to sleep with the shutters open, you won't need the bedroom air conditioning). Victoria was especially efficient in ensuring that the villa was always immaculately clean, (even scrubbing the pool-sides at 7am) and we had not expected new towels and bed-linen almost every day. We have stayed in five star hotels which were serviced less well. The rep, Jane, came on the second day and was most helpful in general tips and in securing an excellent, reasonably priced hotel room (with a cot) for the final day. (This would apply more to those with late return flights, for the villas must be vacated by 10.00am). Tips – Provisions Shopping: Although Agios Leon on first view looks devoid of shops, you can obtain virtually everything you need with a little advice. The garage will give cash-back on a credit card when you buy fuel. Opposite this, the Selina taverna will deliver a good takeaway (and give general advice). Behind the taverna is a general store and excellent butcher's shop and at the other end of the village on the turning to Porto Limona (a good sheltered inlet for swimming with a good taverna) is a Smart Market. All of these open late and everyone is friendly. Should you arrive on a Sunday evening (and bear in mind that Lidl is closed on Sundays) there is a small supermarket directly opposite the end of the Airport road that is still open at 8.30pm. The Old Mill taverna at Loucha is worth a visit – good home cooking with low prices (turn right out of the driveway and about five minutes up the road, it is situated on the hill just before (and overlooking) the charming little village of Loucha). Should you carry on through the village, this is a perfectly good road across the mountains to the east coast.

Stayed here for a weeks holiday, booked through James Villas. We were in Villa Isabella, and there were four other villas in the "village" , along with the owners. The villas have been laid out perfectly so that they are private and not overlooked. They each have their own parking and pool. The only shared facilities are pool and table tennis tables. The villa itself was beautiful, tastefully decorated to a high standard, with everything you needed. There was a daily housekeeping visit to keep the villas spotless, providing clean towels. Located just outside the quiet village of Agios Leon, they are in a peaceful location, where the use of a car is essential. Roads are quiet, and with the island being so small it's a great base from which to explore, with numerous beaches and tavernas within a short drive. If you're after relaxation in the sun, then this is the place for you!
