Great if you know the facts
Terrible start, purely down to lack of knowledge via teletext holidays. My friend found these apartments for a group of 8 friends for a girls holiday, naturally she was feeling the stress and wanted to check every detail to make sure it was all ok! Having read reviews on trip advisor we were concerned about two things, 'no key issue' and 'lack of safe'. The morning we were going we decide to double check this information as our flight from Leeds Bradford wasn't till 5, and what with transfers etc we didn't want to arrive late and not be able to get in our rooms. My friend rang and mentioned the reviews that said about not being able to get a key for the room if you arrive late, teletext holidays reassured her and said to collect the key from a sister hotel on arrival. I googled about the safe and booking.com mentioned a safe box in the apartment amenities list.
So off on our holidays we go, our transfer coach dropped us off in the middle of no where, 8 women clueless to where we are, a non-English speaking very rude coach driver basically told us to rush off as he had to get on and couldn't tell us where to go next. We went across to the vistamar hotel who pointed us in the right direction and they said they had no idea where we go for a key as the torre d'obe has no reception desk. We trotted over, cases in tow and had no idea how to get in. Eventually two random rather seedy Spanish men (who clearly staying in apartments) let us in. We were then stuck with absolutely no idea where to go next. We met a group of English people who explained this was the worst holiday they had been on, they were left all night not able to get in there apartments as the 'office' didn't open till 10am and they arrived in the very early hours. They had to go to a 24 hour bar and sit and wait. We stressed and stressed and went through every holiday email checking for numbers and further information with a fine tooth-comb !!
We found in the very small print of one email a contact number of who to ring to receive our room keys.... hallelujah! We rang the number and a lovely Spanish lady arrived immediately with our keys! Why did teletext not tell us this information when we specifically rang and asked for it?
It was a shame we got off to this start as once inside it was kept very clean and in a fabulous location! No clean towels all holiday just the original ones, there was an outdoor safe like lockers but do you particularly feel comfortable keeping your possessions away from you away from your room?! In all honesty the rooms are very safe, gates to get into the grounds of the apartment require a key and with the lack of maid for the whole 5 days it was only us who went in our room.
Another complaint, we were unable to use the pool due to all the many rules! There was two very confrontational, rude Spanish ladies who clearly own an apartment, who kept complaining to the life guard about us, (we were a bunch of women 25-40 doing nothing remotely wrong apart from the occasional giggle! No sunbeds, no drinks, no food, no smoking, only allowed in the pool with a shower, clearly no talking as every time we tried to we were told off by the life guard!
The office you go to pay your deposit we found the staff very rude and abrupt, we felt a little like lost English people a lot on the holiday to say Benidorm is renowned for being 'like blackpool' we felt totally clueless.
Benidorm is very pleasant on the whole, lovely, clean beach... the old town is lovely. The main strip you should know what to expect, abit of fun, tack and lots of booze. It's cheap and cheerful and our group of friends turned this holiday around. It's a shame about the complications with the key and the rude people around the pool!! I would definitely go back to these apartments knowing what I know. The lady we rented from was called Christina and she was a little diamond.
Food wise we were particularly fond of the Yorkshire pride pub!
